How talents work
Ashen Veil has no fixed classes. You earn 1 neural point per level (the level cap is 60, so roughly 59 points over a whole run) and spend them across 15 talent trees holding 170 talents. Mastering every talent in the game would cost 711 points, so you will only ever master a small slice of the trees and every build is a set of trade-offs.
- Most talents have several ranks (usually 3 to 5), and each rank adds the listed bonus again.
- Many talents require another talent at a certain rank before you can take them.
- Each tree is gated by tier: you must spend a number of points inside the same tree to unlock its higher tiers.
- Tier 6 capstones cost 3 points each and combine several large bonuses.
- You can respec at a cost that scales with your level.
| Tier | Unlock requirement |
|---|---|
| Tier 1 | 0 points spent in the same tree |
| Tier 2 | 3 points spent in the same tree |
| Tier 3 | 7 points spent in the same tree |
| Tier 4 | 12 points spent in the same tree |
| Tier 5 | 18 points spent in the same tree |
| Tier 6 | 25 points spent in the same tree |

Some bonuses are capped no matter how many talents, items and perks you stack, so you cannot break the game with a single stat. The ceilings are:
| Stat | Cap |
|---|---|
| Dodge chance | 60% |
| Damage reduction | 60% |
| Shop discount | 50% |
| Critical chance | 75% |
| Lifesteal | 30% |
| Chance not to use ammo | 75% |
| Weak-enemy surrender chance | 60% |
| Stamina refund | 60% |
| Bonus Action Points | up to +2 |
| Armor piercing | 80% |
| Regeneration per round | 10% |
| Poison per round | 15% |
| Damage reflection | 100% |
The practical lesson: once you are near a cap, further points in that stat are wasted. Spread into a second tree instead. The talent build guide shows five complete builds that respect these caps.
